EAST Gallery NUA

Neil Powell oversees the programming of the EAST Gallery at NUA, a contemporary  art space in the City that attracts over 50,000 visitors annually .

EAST is an important touring venue for national exhibitions, but also originates its own one-off shows and touring exhibitions. The Gallery venue also provides early career curators, interns and art handlers with valuable experience in installation and exhibitions management. Below is a selection of recent exhibitions:

‘British Art Show 8’. Hayward Touring Show. Curated by Anna Colin and Lydia Yi. City lead Neil Powell for NUA, the Museum and the Forum. July-September 2016.

‘The Fierce Light: Centenary of the Battle of the Somme’, exhibition curator and designer, with the Imperial War Museum, London, Writers Centre, Norwich and Norfolk and Norwich Festival. Touring exhibition.  May 2016.

‘Extra Terrestrial: Alison Wilding and Tess Jaray’, selected and curated with the artists and Karsten Schubert Fine Art, London. Mar – Apr. 2016.

‘Lynda Morris: Dear Lynda…’ initially shown by Matthew Higgs at White Columns New York 2012, covers NUA Professor Lynda Morris’s extraordinary life as the ‘artist’s curator’. Apr – May 2013.

‘Washi: the Art of Japanese Paper’, 12 March 2013-20 April 2013. An exhibition of Japanese handmade paper from the 19th century Parkes Collection (Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew) and from the Washi: The Soul of Japanese Collection of contemporary washi. Originated by Neil Powell in conjunction with the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Culture. Curated by Nancy Casserley.
